Well, it looks like my MoNoBloPo has been extended. Through the end of the year, almost. There’s no real reason - I still love my blog and all, and in fact I’ve been getting more emails lately from people who’ve found me through my blog. I’ve simply been focused on living in the moment, especially for our vacation. Vacations have been supremely rare in my life, so I’ve wanted to just enjoy it without the pressure to write or even shoot photos. We’ve been in Victoria, British Columbia for the past week, and it’s been awesome. We made the ferry by less than a minute on the way in - we were elated to make it!
I’ve felt like going out shooting, but it’s been next to impossible to even think about with the three kids. Great photography requires visualization, positioning and planning, which I have no mental reserves to devote to. I’ve enjoyed the kids a lot this week: Fiona is roly-poly and full of new words. Connor is a ball of pure energy - we’ve been running stairs between laps in the pool and ocean-front hikes. Trinity has been, well, a bit of a whiny handful, but she’s also been amazing with her crafts, care of Fiona, and relentless curiosity. All in all, a great week. We’re still quite short on sleep, due to Fiona waking up several times a night. At least she doesn’t want to feed, so I guess that’s progress.
I could lament further on the dry artistic well, but whining is for losers! Who wants to read about that, anyway? I’m just trying to set my expectations lower. This is just one of those times when the kids are young and very needy, and personal work is laid aside for a time. Focusing on being a good dad is way more important than grabbing a unique photo, right?
