Pirates! Vegas! Crunch Day! Geek Poetry!

A few quick hits this Crunch Day, April 10:

Pirates hijacked allanwhite.com, and are holding it for ransom. “Ken” writes:

Recently, allanwhite.com expired and went into a domain name auction. We acquired it and, since you own the .net version of this domain name, we wanted to provide you with the opportunity to own the preferred .com version.

I don’t really care - I never wanted to pay the extra to reserve it - but the chutzpah! Like there are that many Allan Whites out there. They want $458 for my name! Ken, you’re a pirate, and not in a cool way. I have other choice words, but I’ll scream them into my pillow.

I’m going to Vegas for NAB 2008 Expo! It’s a monster, I can’t imagine. Over the next week or so this blog will be devoted to my trip, so if you don’t care about video stuff, feel free to return the following week. I’ll be posting lots to Twitter, Flickr, and Del.icio.us from the phone. I’ll try not to gamble away all my hard earned cabbage on the show girls. Maybe I’ll see a CSI filming…

Today is Crunch Day. I got here early, closed the door, stocked up on food, coffee, and water, and will not emerge until my latest video is complete. Focus power, Allan-san...

One more thing before I go. Apple is finally releasing Final Cut Server, a kickin’ video asset management & collaboration system, after announcing it a full year ago at NAB ‘07. While debating the delay over at Ars Technica, I got into a spat with a critical poster. It rapidly devolved into… geek poetry! A refreshing alternative. That’s why I love Ars - even the insults are genteel.

Once again I’m reminded how much you suck. I’d pay $1000 for jasonhill.com. Heck, I’d pay that for jasonhill.net.
