This is a brief intro & outtro I created in After Effects 7 for a potential Livin It action sports event next year in Louisville, Kentucky. I wanted to experiement with the “wiggle” expression property in this piece. The video portion was done by Chris Sheets, shot on a HVX200 in 720p.
After Effects can use expressions (formulas) to manipulate various properties. The position.wiggle() property makes whatever the parameters are oscillate randomly, which is handy for adding motion like camera shake.
I was inspired by the Two Towers intro: Gandalf is plummeting into the chasm beneath Moria, chasing the Balrog. There’s this one shot that looks downward toward the two, about to hit the water. There’s this wonderful camera shake that makes it so dynamic and immersive.
While this little clip is nothing like that of course, I wanted to try it and start small. I’m becoming more comfortable working in 3D now in AE, which is lots of fun.
