My mind is fully blown.
Apple’s announced a monster upgrade to their Final Cut Studio video & audio editing suite at a NAB press event yesterday. It’s earthshaking in it’s breadth and depth - any questions about their ability to compete with the highest end tools for cinema or HD are likely to be laid to rest.
Quick mentions: Motion 3 has real 3D, motion tracking, and live paint; FCP… where to start! There’s a new Final Cut Server (based on Proximity’s Artbox workflow product) and an app called “Color” for high-end color grading (giddy). What a great time to be alive in this biz!
Before taking this last gig, I considered whether joining a Mac-only, Final Cut shop was the right choice. I think I bet on the right horse.
Initial in-depth coverage from Mike Curtis here (pretty much blow-for-blow), and some updated analysis here.
