I have many things on my mind right now, but mostly I tried to catch up on sleep and just chilled out with the family on Sunday. I’ve been working pretty much non-stop for the last 3 weeks, and at a pretty intense level before that. When it arrived, it almost went too fast, it seemed; usually I fly to the city the week of the event, and it’s much more demanding with all the travel and such. It has been really wonderful to be able to go home at night (usually well after midnight!) this time around.
When things wind down finally, I get some time to think and process.
Working behind the scenes as I do for these (I make and playback all the pre-recorded video & graphics; I live in the video truck), I really don’t get to participate in the event at all. It’s strange, because I can see everything in the truck - we had six high-definition cameras running constantly (more on that later), but it’s still disembodied and separated from the people who are out front. I do get to go out front occasionally, but only briefly due to my other duties.
For me, my festival experience really comes down to two areas: the work itself, and the people involved. The work part was pretty exciting this time around: our first HD shoot and digital capture (the files look amazing!), the incredible Mira Mobile M7 truck, and many new Internet initiatives like our blog, streaming video, Flickr and Twitter networking. We’ll be spending weeks alone just figuring out our new workflow, to capitalize on our investment.
As exciting professionally as that is, it’s really the people that made this experience unforgettable for me. In my next post, I’ll highlight a few of these amazing people.
