Nifty 50

I was looking at my friend Tyler’s excellent photography today, and noticed he’d shot it with the ever-popular Canon EF 50mm f1.8. I got one for Kristi (inspired by J), and I love the way it looks.

Oh nifty fif-teee!
How we love theee!
So bright, no vignette
(we’ll add it in post, my pet)
Your bokeh, so fine
Will you fit the camera of my mind?

I was chatting with Tyler about it, and he broke the news:

actually…the 50mm 1.8 broke due to an unfortunate skydiving accident…but it’s an excuse to go for the f1.4!

Tragedy! The f1.4 - a pro lens - costs 2.5 times as much for an even wider aperture. Tyler deserves it, he’s doing work for hire.

leafAlso: I shot some leaves yesterday, with the Nikon D70 we have here at the office. The overcast sky made for very rich colors. Every autumn I kick myself for not photographing the seasonal colors, so I squeezed it in on a lunch break.
